🏨 Where to Stay
- Lido Palace ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ — Riva's belle-époque grande dame: a Leading Hotels of the World palace opened in 1899 right on the lakefront, set in a century-old park. Behind the Art Nouveau façade lie coolly contemporary rooms, a lakeview gourmet restaurant, and the vast 1,500m² CXI spa with indoor and outdoor pools. Rated a near-perfect 9.9 by couples.
- Du Lac et Du Parc Grand Resort ⭐⭐⭐⭐ — a big, beautifully-set lakeside resort spread through a wooded park with its own little beach, a sailing club, indoor and outdoor pools and the Armonia spa. Rooms, suites and garden bungalows, three restaurants and endless activities — ideal for families and longer, active stays, and only steps from the old town.
- Parc Hotel Flora ⭐⭐⭐⭐ — attainable pick — a 4-star superior retreat set in its own botanical Mediterranean park with direct lake access, a private heated pool and a proper spa — ranked among the top hotels in town, and a five-minute walk from the centre.
- Grand Hotel Liberty ⭐⭐⭐⭐ — an Art Nouveau wellness hotel right in the centre of town, a few minutes' walk from the lake, with indoor and outdoor pools, a full spa and Turkish bath — classic Riva elegance without leaving the old town.
- Hotel Val Di Sogno ⭐⭐⭐⭐ — adults only, hidden gem — a sustainably built, adults-only hideaway on its own cove near Malcesine, with a private pebble beach, heated pool and every room facing the lake — quiet, romantic, and a short boat or bike ride from the Monte Baldo cable car.
✈️ Flights
- Flights to Verona (VRN) — the closest gateway; Riva sits at the lake's northern tip, around an hour and a quarter's drive from Verona Villafranca.
- Flights to Venice (VCE) — the year-round alternative from Manchester, roughly two hours' drive from the lake.
🎟️ Experiences
- Old Ponale Road Path — the Sentiero della Ponale, one of Italy's great scenic walks and bike rides: a former cliff road carved into the rock high above the lake, curling past tunnels and lookouts with the whole northern basin spread out below. Rent an e-bike in town and ride it at golden hour.
- Monte Baldo Cable Car — hop the lake ferry across to pretty Malcesine, then ride the famous rotating cable car up Monte Baldo (1,760m) for sweeping views over Lake Garda and the Dolomites beyond — paragliders launching, hikers setting off, and an alpine-meadow world floating above the Mediterranean shore.
- Cascata del Varone Tickets — a genuinely rare sight: an underground waterfall thundering nearly 100m through a vertical limestone gorge, seen from walkways cut into the rock, with a botanical garden clinging to the terraced hillside outside. Just 3km from Riva — bring a rain jacket, you will get wet.
