Santorini — Caldera Views & Sunset Magic 🌋
The Greek island that launched a thousand postcards: whitewashed cliffside villages, blue-domed churches, and a volcanic caldera formed by one of history's greatest eruptions. Hand-picked stays and must-book experiences — every link takes you straight to Trip.com to check live prices and book.
🏨 Where to Stay
- Canaves Oia Epitome ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ — hewn into the volcanic rock above the fishing village of Ammoudi, the only property on the island offering both sea and sunset views from every room. Two private infinity pools, a spa terrace, and utter privacy just minutes from Oia.
- Katikies Santorini ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ — the original Oia clifftop icon, a Leading Hotels of the World member built into the caldera itself. Delicately furnished suites, a Michelin-adjacent dining scene, and some of the most photographed infinity pools in Greece.
- Mystique, a Luxury Collection Hotel ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ — adults only — carved into the rugged caldera cliffs, a serene 42-suite hideaway favoured for honeymoons, with cobbled pathways, two pools and panoramic views to the volcano from every corner. Open mid-April to October.
- Aeolos Art & Eco Suites ⭐⭐⭐⭐ — adults only, attainable pick — nine eco-built cave suites on the Imerovigli cliffside, most with a private or shared jetted tub facing the caldera and volcano — the same postcard sunset view as the five-star icons, at a fraction of the price.
- Canaves Oia Suites ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ — perched at the highest point of Oia with the island's only elevator access, 46 suites and villas with private plunge or infinity pools, a cave spa carved into the cliffs, and the fine-dining Petra restaurant — named Santorini's #1 luxury hotel.
✈️ Flights
- Flights to Santorini (JTR) — direct summer-season flights from Manchester, around 4 hours with easyJet, Jet2 or TUI. Outside the summer window, fly via Athens instead.
🎟️ Experiences
- Castle of Oia — the ruined Byzantine castle at the edge of Oia and the island's most famous sunset-watching spot. Arrive at least an hour early in high season to claim a good vantage point before the crowds descend.
- Akrotiri Archaeological Site — Greece's answer to Pompeii: a Bronze Age Minoan port town frozen under volcanic ash since the 16th century BC, with multi-storey buildings, frescoes and drainage systems remarkably intact beneath a modern bioclimatic roof.
- Nea Kameni Volcano Cruise — sail into the caldera to hike the still-active volcanic islet at its centre, then swim in the sulphur-rich hot springs of neighbouring Palea Kameni. Most boats combine it with a stop on Thirassia and a sunset sail back beneath Oia.
